Six members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing internal crises and poor governance in the PDP-led government. The lawmakers, who include factional Speaker Bashar Aliyu Gummi, Nasiru Abdullahi Maru, Bashir Abubakar Masama, Bashir Bello, Amiru Ahmad Keta, and Muktar Nasir Kaura, announced their decision through separate letters addressed to the Speaker of the House.

In their letters, the lawmakers cited Section 109(1)(g) of the 1999 Constitution, which allows a lawmaker to defect if there's a division within their political party. They accused the PDP-led government, under Governor Dauda Lawal, of poor leadership, failure to address security challenges, and not fulfilling campaign promises ¹ ² ³.

The defectors also claimed that the Zamfara House of Assembly has been compromised, functioning as an extension of the executive arm rather than an independent body. They've formed a parallel faction of the House to challenge alleged legislative and executive irregularities.

The APC has welcomed the defectors, praising their decision as a step towards political stability and development in Zamfara State ⁴.
