The Nigerian Army has made a significant breakthrough in Plateau State, arresting three suspected gunrunners and recovering two locally fabricated AK-47 rifles, one round of 7.62mm ammunition, two knives, and three mobile phones. The operation, conducted by the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army under Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace, was intelligence-led and took place in Vom, Jos South Local Government Area, on December 24, 2025.
According to Major Samson Natip Zhakom, Media Information Officer of the task force, the operation aimed to disrupt the supply of illicit weapons to criminal groups in the region. The suspects are currently in military custody, and follow-up operations are underway to apprehend other members of the network.
The army also faced resistance from youths and women while withdrawing from the area, resulting in injuries to one officer and damage to military vehicles. Despite this, the troops maintained control and discipline throughout the encounter ¹ ².
This operation is part of the Nigerian Army's ongoing efforts to ensure peace and security in Plateau State, particularly during the festive period.
