The Osun State House of Assembly has passed two significant bills: the Osun State Islamic and Traditional Marriages (Registration) Bill, 2025, and the Osun State Water Users’ Association (Irrigation) Bill, 2025. The Islamic and Traditional Marriages (Registration) Bill aims to establish a legal framework for recognizing, documenting, and protecting marriages conducted under Islamic and traditional rites in the state ¹ ² ³.
The bill, sponsored by Hon. Lawal Bamidele Rasheed, seeks to respect cultural and religious values while ensuring marriages are duly recognized and protected under the law. The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, stated that the legislation will strengthen social institutions and promote agricultural development in Osun State.
The Osun State Water Users’ Association (Irrigation) Bill establishes a legal framework for forming and managing Water Users’ Associations to oversee irrigation systems, empowering farmers and rural communities to manage infrastructure sustainably ¹ ² ³.
Both bills will be forwarded to Governor Ademola Adeleke for assent.
