Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has expressed confidence that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national convention will mark a turning point for the party. Addressing delegates at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex in Ibadan, Makinde said, "We have fought a long stretch of battle to get to this point, but here we are. And by the grace of God, this convention will go down as the convention that brought a turn-around to the PDP nationally" ¹ ² ³.

Makinde praised PDP members for their resilience, noting that the journey to holding the convention had been long and challenging but ultimately worthwhile. He welcomed delegates to Ibadan, encouraging them to enjoy the city's hospitality and famous delicacy, amala ⁴ ⁵ ⁶.

The convention has seen the expulsion of several high-profile members, including FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, and former party National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, for alleged anti-party activities. Despite this, Makinde emphasized the party's strength and commitment to unity, progress, and service to Nigeria ¹ ⁷.

The PDP convention aims to elect a new National Working Committee and reinvigorate the party ahead of future elections ² ³.
