A Federal High Court in Abuja has again restrained the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from holding its 2025 National Convention, scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State. The court also barred the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from supervising, monitoring, or recognizing the outcome of the convention ¹ ² ³.
Justice Peter Lifu issued the fresh restraining order on Tuesday, November 11, while ruling on an application filed by former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido. Lamido alleged he was unlawfully denied the opportunity to purchase the Chairmanship nomination form, excluding him from the process ² ⁴ ⁵.
The judge held that the PDP failed to comply with legal and constitutional requirements for the convention, including publishing a proper timetable. He emphasized that due process must be strictly followed to avoid endangering democracy ² ⁵ ⁴.
