In a swift and decisive operation, a joint patrol team comprising police operatives from Abia State command, Nigerian Army personnel, and members of Operation Crush intercepted and neutralized an armed gang in Umuode Village, Abia State. The incident occurred on Monday along Port Harcourt Express Road, resulting in the death of at least one suspect and the recovery of vehicles.

According to a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Abia State Police Command, ASP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, the security operatives were on a joint patrol when they intercepted vehicles carrying armed men around 0930hrs. A gunfire ensued, and the security officials overpowered the armed men, gunning down one person, while the rest fled with various degrees of injuries.

Subsequently, an abandoned Toyota Highlander SUV with the corpse of an unidentified suspect was recovered at Adanegbuazu along Mbamaonyeukwu Hotel Road in Umuode, Aba. The corpse has been deposited at a mortuary, and an investigation is ongoing.
