The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has denied having factions within the party, despite the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) rejecting the Kabiru Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC). INEC cited subsisting court judgments and unresolved legal processes as reasons for not recognizing the Turaki-led NWC, which was elected at the party's National Convention in Ibadan on November 15-16, 2025 ¹ ² ³.
The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, stated that the party has appealed the judgments and filed an application for a stay of execution, emphasizing that there is no faction in the PDP as all legitimate organs and administrative structures are under Turaki's control ⁴.
INEC's decision was based on two Federal High Court judgments in Abuja, which restrained the commission from recognizing or giving effect to the PDP National Convention's outcome. The commission also noted that another suit filed by the PDP is pending before the Federal High Court in Ibadan, seeking recognition of the NWC and National Executive Committee elected at the convention ¹ ² ⁵.
