Edo State Police have made significant strides in combating crime, arresting 821 suspected criminals and rescuing 377 kidnap victims in 2025. The suspects include 171 kidnappers, 117 murder suspects, 62 linked to rape and sexual offences, 239 cultism suspects, and 157 others for various offences. The police also recovered 11 stolen vehicles, 188 arms, and 422 rounds of ammunition.

The Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, attributed these successes to proactive and intelligence-driven policing, including a forest clearance operation in Edo North that denied criminal elements access to ungoverned spaces. The operation involved inter-agency collaboration with the Nigerian Army, NAF, NSCDC, Forest Guards, and local vigilante groups ¹ ² ³.

Agbonika warned against the disappearance of corpses from private morgues, describing it as "criminal, inhuman, and a gross violation of the dignity of the bereaved". He advised families to use government-owned mortuaries with proper oversight.
