Prof. Joash Amupitan, the newly appointed Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), is set to officially assume office tomorrow, October 23, 2025. The ceremony will take place at the commission's headquarters in Abuja, marking a significant transition in leadership.

Amupitan, a renowned Professor of Law at the University of Jos and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), was confirmed by the Senate last Thursday, following a thorough screening process. He is expected to be sworn in by President Bola Tinubu, after which he will meet with INEC directors at 1:30 p.m. in the Conference Hall ¹ ² ³.

As the new INEC Chairman, Amupitan will oversee upcoming electoral activities, including the November 8 Anambra governorship election. His expertise in constitutional and international law is expected to shape INEC's future direction ⁴ ⁵.
