The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has criticized Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa's administration for lacking seriousness in addressing security issues, following a leaked Department of State Services (DSS) alert warning of planned coordinated attacks by the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terror group.
The PDP Director of Media and Publicity, Wande T. Ajayi, expressed concern that the governor's approach to security management is inadequate, stating, "The governor's idea of security management is limited to flying around in private jets to attend events and making hollow pronouncements".
Ajayi urged the governor to convene an urgent security summit, mobilize resources, and rebuild confidence among security agencies, emphasizing that the state needs decisive leadership. The PDP also highlighted concerns about the welfare of Amotekun Corps officers, calling for their integration into the state civil service to ensure job security, improved funding, and motivation.
The DSS memo, addressed to the 32 Artillery Brigade, warned of ISWAP's plans to launch coordinated assaults on communities in Ondo and Kogi States, identifying Eriti Akoko, Oyin Akoko, and Owo town as potential targets.
Ondo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Idowu Ajanaku, assured residents that the government is working closely with security agencies to strengthen surveillance and prevent attacks, describing the leaked memo as routine intelligence ¹ ² ³.
