Afrobeats singer Folarin Odunlami, popularly known as Fola, has shared a harrowing experience from his early days in Lagos, where he pursued a career in music. In a recent interview with The Beat 99.9 FM Lagos, Fola recounted being arrested and spending a night at a police station on the day he relocated to the city in 2018.
The Incident
Fola revealed that the incident left him discouraged and nearly made him abandon his dream of becoming a musician. "The very first day I came to Lagos, I was arrested. I slept at the police station. It was a long story. I don’t want to remember it. I almost gave up," he said.
Overcoming Adversity
Despite the rough start, Fola pushed through and went on to achieve success. He signed with Bella Shmurda’s record label, Dagbani Republik, in October 2024, and has since collaborated with major Afrobeats stars, including:
