Lagos Airport to Undergo N712.3 Billion Overhaul

The Federal Government, under President Bola Tinubu, has approved a whopping N712.3 billion for the comprehensive upgrade of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. This project is part of the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund, aimed at revamping the aviation sector.

Key Features of the Project

- *Terminal Overhaul*: The project involves stripping the old terminal building down to its carcass and rebuilding it with modern mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.

- *Apron Expansion*: The domestic wing apron will be expanded over a three-phase project, covering over 82,000 square meters, to accommodate more aircraft.

- *Runway Rehabilitation*: The project includes runway rehabilitation and lighting enhancement in Lagos, Port Harcourt, and Kano to improve landing capabilities during low-visibility conditions.

- *Security Enhancements*: A 14.6-kilometer metal security fence with intrusion detection systems, CCTV cameras, and solar-powered floodlights will be constructed around the airport.

Project Timeline and Contractor

- *Contractor*: The contract has been awarded to China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), the same company that built Terminal 2 at the airport.
