Zamfara Emirate Mourns the Passing of Emir Ibrahim Bello

The Emir of Gusau, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, has passed away at the age of 71 after a prolonged illness. He died on Friday, July 25, 2025, in Abuja. The news of his demise was confirmed by Sulaiman Idris, spokesperson to Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal ¹.

Reaction from the Governor
Governor Lawal expressed deep sorrow over the Emir's passing, describing it as a personal loss. "I received with deep sadness the news of the passing of our father, His Royal Highness, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, the Emir of Gusau... I have lost a confidant and a father whose wisdom guides me and other state leaders. May the Almighty Allah (SWT) forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannah," the governor said ¹ ².

Emir's Legacy
Dr. Bello was appointed as the 16th Emir of Gusau in March 2015, following the death of his predecessor. During his decade-long reign, he played a significant role in the socio-cultural affairs of Zamfara State, promoting peace and development. Before ascending the throne, Dr. Bello had a distinguished career in public service, rising to the position of Permanent Secretary in the old Sokoto and Zamfara states ¹ ³.

Tributes and Condolences
The Zamfara State Council of Chiefs, the Gusau Emirate Council, and residents of the state have poured in tributes, praising Dr. Bello's legacy of service, humility, and leadership. Hon. Kabiru Amadu, representing Gusau/Tsafe in the House of Representatives, also confirmed the Emir's death, describing him as a beloved traditional ruler ² ⁴.

Funeral Arrangements
Details about the funeral arrangements are yet to be released, but preparations are underway to give the late Emir a befitting farewell. Residents of Gusau and other dignitaries across Nigeria are expected to converge in Zamfara to pay their final respects to a royal father who served with honor ².
