The Abia State Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, has assured the people of Itumbauzo that the present administration will prioritize peaceful coexistence between communities in the state. This assurance comes after a boundary dispute between Amaba Ubibia community and Ndiwo community in Itumbauzo, Bende Local Government Area, was brought to his attention.
Background of the Dispute
The dispute centers around a Supreme Court judgment that ruled in favor of Amaba Ubibia community. However, Ndiwo community has insisted that some individuals, including the late Mr. Paul Udonja, have land holdings in the disputed area. Mr. Udonja's son, Chukwuma Paul, is set to have his 12 plots of land restored to him as part of the resolution process ¹.
Efforts Towards Peaceful Resolution
Deputy Governor Emetu emphasized the importance of harmonious living across communities in Abia State, particularly given the state's ongoing boundary issues with seven neighboring states. He pointed out that the council has the mandate to promote peace and restore order within sister communities.
In a meeting with Amaba and Ndiwo communities, Emetu assured that the issue between Mr. Paul and the community will be resolved amicably. The Deputy Chief of Staff, Office of the Deputy Governor, Barr. Chijioke Nwankwo, and the Mayor of Bende Local Government Area, Chief Bassey, have also called for peace and expressed optimism that the matter will be resolved soon ² ¹.
